sleepsuits & rompers...

carters sleepsuits

more carters sleepsuits...

and baby gap rompers...

hey baby,
when we got back to daddy's office yesterday afternoon after checkup, mummy found a familiar brown package sitting on daddy's table... :)
yeah, the sleepsuits and rompers from the 5th spree had arrived...
uncle fabian jokingly rolled his eyes and commented :"mann, there are at least 2 packages per week." heehee.
at that point of time, daddy is either pre-occupied with his work, or already numbed (as presumed by mummy), as he remained silent. :p
well, at least, daddy agreed with me that these batch of clothings are as adorable as the rest... :)

3D baby...

hey baby,
today's 1 hour wait is well worth...
during the 2D scan, dr. ang measured your estimated weight. While trying to do 3D scan, he commented that your hands are covering your face so we might not be able to capture the image. you must have heard what he said and while he's trying to capture your image, you promptly moved your hand away from your face and show us your side profile.

although dr. ang said that at this point of time, the image might look like an alien, daddy & mummy think that you look so cute and adorable...

we managed to see your fist, nose, mouth, cheek, forehead, ear and eye.
your fist was clenched tightly, and you don't seem to be too happy with your mouth frowning. (mummy know you are hungy), and what chubby cheeks you have...
as at today, you are 24weeks 3days and weight 788grams... and everything is going smooth and normal. yeah... :)
p.s: daddy & mummy loves you lots...

after dinner yesterday night, mummy brought ah gong and ah ma (mummy's papa & mama) to visit daddy's office. seeing that there is still no sight of the highly anticipated "sponsored" refridgerator, ah ma promptly declared that she will be the official sponsorer... how sweet of her... :)
the "sponsorship" angpow

p.s: oops... ah gong mis-spelled D.Ink as D.Link... :p
nonetheless, daddy is touched by their loving gesture.

daily check...

The normal heart rate is between 60-80 beats per min
During pregnancy the heart rate goes around 85-90 beats per min
A "desirable" blood pressure is less than 120/80.
Hypertension of pregnancy is usually defined as 140/90 or greater
hey baby,
with the recent episodes of swollen legs saga, daddy and mummy are taking no chance and so we've implemented daily blood pressure check at home.

This is because high blood pressure, along with having protein in the urine, can indicate a potentially serious condition called pre-eclampsia.

"Regular BP checks once you're over 20 weeks are important for your own health as well as your baby's," says BabyCentre's midwife Sally Sago.

By the sixth month of pregnancy, mummy will have produced an extra two and a half pints of blood, which the heart has to pump around the body. All this extra activity may make mummy feel warmer than usual. The extra blood is used to transport nourishment and oxygen to you via the placenta and the umbilical cord and to take your waste products away. The pregnancy hormone progesterone relaxes the walls of blood vessels, which is why mummy's BP often falls around the middle of pregnancy. This lower BP is what makes some women feel faint if they stand for too long or get up quickly. The BP will return to normal in the last few weeks of pregnancy. The gynae will only be concerned if the BP reading rises above what's normal for and stays high over several readings.

If the BP does start to rise, the results of regular urine test will be crucial to what happens next. If the urine has protein in it, one may be in the early stages of pre-eclampsia, and will need more frequent antenatal checks as a result.

This is a serious condition thought to be caused by problems in the placenta, the organ that nourishes the baby in the womb. Pre-eclampsia can occur any time after 20 weeks of pregnancy. One in 14 pregnancies are affected by pre-eclampsia, and one in 20 women expecting their first baby suffer from this condition. These women need frequent BP and urine checks. Doctor have to be notify immediately if there are persistent headaches, , pain below the ribs on the right side, blurred vision, sudden swelling of the hands and feet and vomiting - all of which could mean a worsening of the pre-eclampsia.

p.s: our next antenatal checkup is on coming monday 29/6, will remember to tell Dr. Ang about the swollen legs.
see you then baby... :)

swelling...

this is mummy's pre-pregnant feet (taken on wedding AD)

hey baby,
remember mummy was telling you the swollen feet.
here are the why, when, where, what, who and how...

What causes swelling in pregnancy?
About half of all pregnant women experience swelling (also called oedema) around their ankles, particularly in the last few months of pregnancy. Oedema is caused by increased pressure in the veins of your legs, and by pressure from your growing baby compressing the big veins in your groin. Water retention adds to the problem. Oedema usually worsens as the day progresses and if you are on your feet, as gravity makes the fluid accumulate at the lowest point. Hot weather and being tired can also make it more pronounced. Normal oedema occurs only in your feet and ankles, in both legs. If it becomes very marked, progressing up your calf and leaving an indentation when you press on it, it may be pre-eclampsia and you should see your midwife or doctor straight away to ensure that no complications are developing. If the swelling occurs only in one leg, particularly if your calf is red, tender and lumpy, you should call your doctor, as you may have thrombosis (a blood clot). Swelling may also happen in your fingers, face, lower back and wrists. If it occurs in your wrists and hand, this is called carpal tunnel syndrome, as the swelling compresses the channel of nerves running up your arm. If you have been prone to oedema in pregnancy, be prepared for it to become temporarily worse in the first three or four days after birth. This is because, as your body starts to return to normal, all the extra tissues, blood vessels and fluid needed during pregnancy now has to be dissolved and excreted as urine via your kidneys. (This is why you pass large quantities of urine at this time.) However, your kidneys are not immediately able to cope with all the extra fluid, so some of the fluid accumulates in the tissues around your body until it can be passed as urine.

How can I prevent it?
It may not be possible to prevent some swelling from developing, but you can take steps to prevent it from becoming very severe, when it can make your legs painful and the skin tender. Try to avoid putting on too much weight, by eating a well balanced diet and cutting down on high-fat foods which contribute to extra weight gain. Drink plenty of water to ensure that your kidneys function well so that excess fluid flows through your urinary system efficiently. Foods which can assist in maintaining good kidney function and act as a natural diuretic (making you pass out urine) include celery, watercress, parsley (in small amounts), apples and citrus fruits, while onions and garlic help the circulation. Avoid too much salt and pre-packaged, highly processed foods which contain both salt and other additives which can contribute to fluid retention. Eating foods which are naturally rich in vitamins C and E may also be helpful. Foods rich in vitamin C include citrus fruits, green and red peppers, melon, potatoes, tomatoes, strawberries, cabbage and broccoli. Foods rich in vitamin E include vegetable oils (especially corn, soy and wheatgerm oil), sunflower seeds, wheatgerm, sweetcorn, cashews, almonds and corn oil margarine.

Self-help suggestions
Rest as much as possible, putting your feet up above your hips by resting them on a stool, but avoid crossing your legs as this restricts blood flow and can cause blood clots. Sit down when you can, and if your work involves standing for long periods of time, move about from one foot to the other to increase blood flow. Ask your partner to massage your feet and legs gently, using both hands and working upwards from feet to knees, using a base oil such as grapeseed. However, if your legs are excessively swollen and the skin is very tight this may be too painful for you. Avoid using aromatherapy essential oils for massage, but you can add them to a bowl of water and soak your feet in the mixture. Cypress oil is particularly good for circulation (also good for varicose veins), or lavender or chamomile may ease the discomfort and relax you. You could try wrapping a leaf of dark green cabbage around your legs to ease the swelling. Do not wash the leaves, just wipe off any dirt and cool them in the fridge before wrapping them round the most swollen parts of your legs and feet. When they become wet, remove them and replace them with more cooled leaves. They are thought to work by osmotic pressure which draws out excess fluid, and you can repeat this as often as necessary until you feel more comfortable. Dandelion tea, a herbal remedy, is thought to help fluid retention, but do not take this if you have a gall bladder condition.

p.s: ok, mummy will take good care for your sake.
if the swelling do not get better over the weekend, then its time to pay dr lawrance ang a visit... :)

23 weeks...

hey baby,
you are 23weeks old today!!! how time flies...
you've been such a wonderful gal by not giving mummy any serious discomfort until today. not much of morning sickness during the 1st trimister and other pregnancy symptoms that other mtb have been experiencing. well, except for a little eposide of leg cramp saga in the middle of the night somewhere last month. :)
mummy knows you are such a contented little baby nurturing in the womb now, trying your best to grow healthy and happily. we love you more as each day passes.

You now weighs a little over one pound/ 500 grams and measures about 11.4 inches/ 29 centimeters from crown to heel. Your hearing is well established and you can make out a distorted version of mummy's voice, the beating of mummy's heart and stomach rumblings. Loud noises often heard in utero, such as the barking of a dog next door or the roar of a vacuum cleaner, probably won't bother you when you hear them outside the womb. In addition to advances in your hearing, blood vessels in your lungs are developing in preparation for breathing and you're swallowing regularly...

p.s: mummy's legs and ankles are swollen for the past few days... :(
grandma says its because of high salt intake coupled with sitting down for too long.
seems like a bout of water retention, but nothing too worrying as there's no pain and did not cause any form of immobilization while mummy is walking or driving.
daddy tucked mummy to bed last night with 2 pillows propping the legs up, and the swelling seems to have subsided a little this morning.
will read up more on the swelling and the remedies to take...

3rd spree...

hey baby,
this is mummy's 3rd spree purchase for you.
A carter's baby bag in brown & pink.
And the price is only a friction of what mummy wanted to get originally from OiOi. :p
With the money save, we can have the option to get a few more baby bags in other styles and colors... yippie!!!
mummy is now waiting anxiously for the stuffs to be delivered from the 2nd and 3rd spree. hopefully today is the day mr. postman will come knocking on daddy's office door... :)

22 weeks...

hey baby,
you are 22weeks and 5days today. :)
You now looks like a miniature newborn. Your lips are becoming more distinct and your eyes have developed; though the iris still lacks pigment, your eyebrows and eyelids are in place. Your pancreas, essential for hormone production, is developing steadily and the first signs of teeth are showing beneath your gum line. Before we know it, you will be smiling at us. :)
You now weighs almost one pound/ 430 grams, measures nearly 11 inches/ just over 27 centimeters long from crown to heel, and is proportioned like a newborn, albeit a thinner version since your baby fat hasn't yet developed. Although you're getting heavier every day, your skin still appears wrinkled because you need to gain more weight.
ok baby, grow well and healthy, you can take mummy's excess weight... :p

grubbish talk...

in the car while driving home...
daddy: now that we're having a kid, i finally understand what is "打是疼 骂是爱"
mummy: yea lah, if the kid isn't yours, why would you bother to scold or beat them?
daddy: by the way, who's the one who come out with this saying huh?
mummy: 孔夫子 loh...
daddy: who is 孔夫子???
mummy: Confucius lah... 孔子 and 孔夫子 same person right?
daddy: is it? 孔夫子 sounds like 老孔子 leh...
mummy: ..................................................
mummy: i go search the net tomorrow.

anyway, i've search and confirmed that 孔夫子 and 孔子 were indeed the same person.
but whether this phrase is created by the famous chinese thinker and social philosopher, mummy is not so sure lah. heehee...

daddy's sacrifice...

mummy knows daddy is disappointed that he could not get it at this point of time and is coming to terms with himself.
mummy wants you to know that daddy loves you equally much and you must be good to him too ya... :)
p.s: we love you. muacks

mummy's sacrifice...

hey baby,
daddy wants mummy to journal this down so you will know how much we love you even before you're born...
yesterday morning, daddy woke up the same time as mummy in the morning at 4.30am for the prenatal education. after which he sees mummy going through the daily morning routine and leaving work at 6.30am.
Daddy says it pains his heart to see mummy feeling so tired and that he appreciates all that mummy have done, and so he wants you to be good to mummy... :)

榴连 榴连

hey baby,
how was your 2nd encounter with durian last night? like it?
mummy love durian whereas daddy is not a particular big fan of this "king of tropical fruit".
anyway, knowing that mummy got craving (read: constant nagging in his ears saying "i want durian i want durian"), daddy bought yummy durians for us last night. its pure heaven... :)

Health Benefits:
- extremely nutritious because it is rich in vitamin B, C and E and with high iron content.
- a preparation from its roots and leaves is prescribed by traditional doctors for fevers and jaundice.
- Decoctions of the leaves and fruits are applied to swellings and skin diseases.
- durian fruit helps lower cholesterol.
- durian is a strong blood cleanser.
- durian contains high levels of the amino acid tryptophan, known to alleviate anxiety, depression, and insomnia, and create feelings of happiness, by raising levels of serotonin in the brain
- durian contains high level of soft protein which makes it a good muscle builder.
- durian has a reputation as a powerful aphrodisiac.
- durian is recommended as a good source of raw fats.

Having say it all, durian possesses the "heaty" elements, and the fruit is highly nutritious, so it is not advisable to eat in excess. :p

mummy's colleague's uncle might be dropping by to the company with his car boot filled with durian today... wheeee...
mummy is all prep with empty containers and plastic gloves. haehaehaeh.
and its a real steal at RM5 per kg.

one word to describe : LOUSY
how can a cot be selling for $599???!!! even with mattress and bedding sets throw in, mummy still think its a total ripped off.
and almost 50% of the booths are occupied by insurance companies, spa saloons... :(
and how to bypass these eagled-eyes ppl?
daddy and mummy just stick our hands into the pockets, shake head, say "no thanks" and move on...
we left the exhibition empty handed an disappointed
mummy: think we're really not bargain hunters lah. how can nothing interests us at all?
daddy: yea we're not. we are "quality hunters". these stuffs are lousy lah, not worth buying.
